20 Things You May Not Know About Me

I'm really tired and not focusing very well. Sometimes writing helps, so I'm going to to this blog meme that The Magic Violinist recently did on her blog. Here goes.

1. How tall are you?

Short. 5 foot 2. And yes, I have a complex about it.

2. Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?
Moving has revealed that apparently I'm a hoarder. Who knew?

3. What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

I hate not getting comments from people who I full well know read my blog. I don't mind putting my writing out there, but knowing that people are reading and not giving feedback makes me feel like a little used and spied on and unappreciated sometimes (hey, I have my needy moments!). The flip side of this is that I have a great appreciation for our regular commenters. I love hearing from you!

4. What’s your biggest non-blog-related peeve?

Flakiness. Also, users.

5. What’s your favorite song?
I'll follow TMV's lead on this. Of all time? "Your Song" by Elton John (and I especially love the Moulin Rouge version). Recently? "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran.
6. What’s your favorite Etsy store that isn’t yours?
I don't use Etsy.

7. What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?

Reading, blogging, writing . . .

8. What’s your favorite junk food?

Donuts. Though I'd honestly prefer sushi. I'd rather get sushi than flowers.

9. Do you have a pet?
I'm just going to go ahead and copy TMV's answer: Yes! A little shi-chon named Scout. And she is, without a doubt, the best fit for our family. She's spunky, playful, snuggly, energetic, and just a little crazy. She definitely has a personality, and she won't hesitate to jump onto the top of the couch, walk over to you, and whack your head with her paw to get a treat. But say "mailman" or "UPS" and she goes berserk!
10. What is your top favorite nonfiction and fiction book?

Fiction: To Kill a Mockingbird
Non-fiction: The Dance of the Dissident Daughter.

11. What’s your favorite beauty product?
I rarely wear make-up, so I don't even know how to answer this one. Do earrings count?

12. When were you last embarrassed? What happened?
I recently offered to some new friends that we'd take their kid out to ice cream after an event. I got caught up in the excitement of the event and forgot all about it until we were walking out of the ice cream shop afterward (and hadn't taken the kid with us). I felt positively AWFUL about it. I really, really hate how forgetful I've gotten. Yeah, yeah, I know. Acceptance and all of that. But it BUGS me. A lot. Anyway, we did make up for it and took the kid out to ice cream at a later time, but yeah, I felt pretty awful for a while about that one.

13. If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Water really is my favorite, so I'll say hot cocoa, I guess. I don't like this question. I like variety in my other beverages - I base those on my mood or on what I'm eating, so how can I limit it to one? I drink water ALL. THE. TIME. But sometimes root beer is good with pizza, or a slushy pina colada is refreshing on a hot day, or a hot cocoa warms you up on a cold day or margaritas are good with Mexican food, not to mention other beverage pairings with dinners. And I start every morning with lemon green tea. So yeah, I don't like this question.

14. What’s your favorite movie?

I've always loved "You've Got Mail." I'm also a big, big fan of 80s movies and indie films.

15. What were you in high school? Prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, band geek, valedictorian, loner, artist, prep, et cetera?

I graduated 5th in my class, so not high enough for valedictorian, but high enough to be firmly planted in the nerd category.

16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Lisbon. I love it there. Thing 1 is talking more and more about attending college in London, so I wouldn't be opposed to moving there for a while!

17. PC or Mac?
PC.

18. Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?

Honestly, he does stuff all the time. I'm a lucky girl. I mean, he JUST handed me a homemade, all-natural pumpkin latte.

19. Favorite celebrity?

John Cusack. Duh.

20. What blogger do you secretly want to be best friends with?

Well, my favorite bloggers are related to me, so I'd say I'm good in this department. :)

I know you too well since I could have predicted so many of these.

#2. Don't forget how much I've helped you there. Unfortunately, I think we've each hoarded different types of things. At least we're both committed to purging.

#3 and #4. Yep. I knew that.

#9. Nice borrow. That's our Scout in a nutshell.

#12. I think things are fine with this one. :)

#18. I'll choose not to be sad that neither one of us can remember the more romantic gestures as of late. How can neither one of us remember?!

#19. Did you even need to include his name?

Even though I know you well, it's still fun to read the answers. Love you!

As for being short--I think it's worse for a guy. I never minded being short as a kid or even a young man, but now that I'm in my mid-40s and I'm positive I'm shrinking, I really wish I could have been taller.

I do my best not to be guilty of #3, even if some of my comments are pretty dull.

That story about forgetting and ice cream--yes, that would have been awful. I forgot the snack for my daughter's soccer team on Saturday and I felt like such a loser. Still worried that it will be one of those things that leaves a scar on my daughter's psyche for the rest of her life.

And you're right, I gave it some thought and can't imagine enjoying life without plain water. I always worry that every waiter/waitress that gets me must think I'm the biggest cheapskate at first, but honestly I just love ice water.

I used to get bugged about people who didn't comment but I had to let it go. People don't always have time! I get well over 100 hits on each post and maybe 2 or 3 comments these days. Whatever.

My cousin just got called to your same mission and it made me think of you! I know you didn't post about that but thinking of Lisbon and London reminded me about it.

Forgetting about the kid and ice cream cracked me up! I do stuff like that far too often. I mean, I teach piano lessons on Fridays at 3:30 but I go to their house. Guess how many times I've missed it since school started? EVERY TIME. I haven't taught one lesson. I just cannot remember. In fact I just went over to their house last week and resigned. I just have too much going on right now, but boy did I feel like an idiot.

The ice cream story made me laugh, but I'd definitely be horrified if it'd been me.:)

I love water too. My husband tends to be more health conscious than I, but he doesn't like water very much at all. So, it's a bit of a challenge for him to find a drink with few calories that won't kill him like diet soda might.:)

As far as readers not commenting, I can understand how that would feel for a person writing a personal blog. But I also think that if I wrote a personal blog, part of me would feel weird about people reading it, which is probably why I don't write one.;) As somebody who writes for a blog that gets thousands of hits a day, I'm used to comments not reflecting the readership though.

Mark, #19 - it bears repeating. :) People keep acting surprised by it, so I apparently need to reinforce it.

I'm glad you like reading the answers even though you already know me. You're my favorite. :)

Jimmy, you are so NOT guilty of #3. You are firmly in the "regular commenter" category and I'm very appreciative. I love hearing from you!

I bet your daughter will be just fine. She has a great daddy. ;) And the water thing? I worry about that, too! Same thing here. We spend on food no problem and we tip well. But yeah, no fancy drinks for us. Water, water, water.

Emily, I know you're right, but I do love hearing from people who I know are reading. It's such a simple, quick thing to do and it means so much (and really, if they're reading, they know that), so I really appreciate it when people do it. Over 100 hits per post?!? Wow! I don't think I get near that many. Maybe if I did, the comment thing would bug less. :P And, by the way, thank YOU for keeping in touch via blogs. I love it.

Yikes on the piano lesson thing! But I totally get having so much going on. Really.

LMW, does he like water with stuff in it, like cucumbers or oranges or lemon? What about seltzer water? Thing 2 LOVES seltzer water.

You're so right about it not always reflecting readership. YOU are a great commenter and I hope you know that I appreciate that.

He doesn't go for water with cumbers, but lemon is okay. I don't think he's into flavored water either. I only like fresh water myself. Don't throw any flavors into my water. I like wter with lemon, however, but the acid from it gives me sores in my mouth, so I had to stop doing it. I am actually somebody who is too cheap to pay for soda at a restaurant, but I tip well.:)

Boquinha said...

LMW, I like pure water, too. The older I get, the more weird tongue reactions I get from acidic/vinegary foods, which seems weird to me, because I didn't used to get that. I must admit that that's me, too - since I love water and also because I prefer salty foods to sweet stuff, I'd rather get an appetizer or side than soda and/or dessert. I really do prefer water, but I am also too cheap to pay for soda out, because it's WAY overpriced (always has been).

Tell me more about the blog for which you write!

I write for a country music blog called Country Universe. It's been around since 2004 and we believe it's the oldest country music blog. Kevin, the founder of the site, invited me to write with him back in February 2008. My relationship with country music has changed significantly since then, due to the decline in quality mainstream country music, but there's still a ton of great country music being recorded, even if radio won't touch it. I learn a lot about good music from music blogs. Thank goodness for the internet so that I don't even have to turn on a radio anymore! The site is countryuniverse.net.

Wow, you really put a lot of thought into that beverage question!

IT WOULD BE SO COOL TO LIVE IN LONDON! :)

Ooh, nice song choice. I also really like "Photograph" and "Tenerife Sea," if you haven't heard those yet.

(Ugh. For some reason it's posting my comments twice. No idea why.)

LMW, that is so cool! I'll check that out! (In fact, I just opened a new tab and did a quick peek - there's your name!).

TMV, that's me - overthinking answers to simple questions. :)

His whole album is so good.

I just did a little more looking around the site - is that your Bill? Does he write for them, too?

Hmmm...were you a little grumpy when you wrote this?? ;). I'm sorry. I'm a lurker-spy. I love to read posts but I don't always have the time to write a thoughtful comment. I do appreciate reading the posts, though. I'll try to be better.

Boquinha said...

No, I wasn't grumpy. And I wasn't at all thinking of you, but your comment is sweet. ;)
