Bravo, Mr. Cooper. Bravo.

Cooper says he refrained from being so straightforward in the past because he was trying "to maintain some level of privacy in my life," for both personal and professional reasons.

"As long as a journalist shows fairness and honesty in his or her work, their private life shouldn't matter,". . .
Recently, however, Cooper says he's been reminded "that … the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand."

Me and Anderson Cooper in Atlanta
I've always like Anderson Cooper. And I've always thought him to be brave and genuine. Now, I like him even more. I think it takes guts to come out so publicly.

It's too bad that it even has to be an issue at all. But I think it has to BE an issue before it can be a non-issue. So, kudos to Anderson Cooper for having the chutzpah to be part of the solution. He had no obligation to do so and yet he did it anyway. THAT is the measure of a man.

It does take guts to come out so publicly. still wish he wasn't gay.

It really does take a lot of courage to do what he did. In the world we live in his choice could cost him a lot more than it should. I agree with you that it should be a non-issue.

He's a good journalist and someday I hope everyone can be grown up enough to not feel a need to bully someone because they are different.

Anderson is GAY? And this whole time I thought he was human! Shocked.

Well said Dave Johnson!
For me he is a sexy, articulate, intelligent, brave icon of my high school days. It took some serious balls to go to Bosnia Herzegovina or Rwanda or Serbia. I will continue to crush on his silver hair and James Bond swag until the day I die. =)
