That's Us. A Little Highbrow. A Little Mundane.
From The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield--there's a great description of a minor character (the doctor's wife) in the book. It goes like this (page 104):
"The doctor's wife wasn't a bad woman. She was sufficiently convinced of her own importance to believe that God actually did watch everything she did and listen to everything she said, and she was too taken up with rooting out the pride she was prone to feeling in her own holiness to notice any other failings she might have had. She was a do-gooder, which means that all the ill she did, she did without realizing it."

Ugh, that is going to be such a mess to clean up! I hope that water goes away fast! I was telling my friend Emilie that we get lots of rain here in the summer, but a flood never even enters my mind. We had 3 or 4 inches of rain outside our door a few days ago, but the minute it stopped raining, the water was gone. The ground just soaked it right up!
Crazy! Reminds me of the flood in Nashville last year - on one hand things seem to get fixed up amazingly fast, but on the other, there are still homes here that haven't been fixed, etc. so the effects go on for years...I'm sorry PA has to go through that!! :(
Yeah, it's really sad now to drive around and see everyone's curbs piled high with ruined furniture, boxes, TVs, etc. Such a shame . . .
Oh, forgot to mention -- yes, the lasting effect . . . homes, businesses, etc. There are roads that will be closed until March and, because of that, traffic can't get to some of the businesses, so there's a big economic impact, too. So so sad.
WOW! So glad that you guys dodged the bullet. Seems like it will really have a lasting effect on the area though.
