Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award (Mark)

sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers-award[1]

I'm not sure how I was included in the Sisterhood, but I'll take it as a compliment. Hey, I've been included in far worse groups so I'll proudly post the award. Thanks, Thing 1!

The Magic Violinist's Questions

1. Do you like to write? If so, what kind of stuff? (Stories, reports, poems, just blogging, etc.)

I like to write a lot more than I remember liking as a kid. I like writing a lot of different things, and like the challenge of trying new things, even if I rarely take the time for it. I've enjoyed writing books (especially the one I did with Stacy). I also like the fantasy novel I wrote 2 years ago. Admittedly I like that book more now that I've seen the kids' responses to it. I also like writing poems sometimes. When I blog I'm reminded of how much fun that can be. I like answering questions that other people write for me to answer. I'm working on writing up the rules for a game Thing 2 and I are making. I'm working on writing a teleplay for a sitcom and also have ideas for movie screenplays. Where to start, where to start . . .

2. What book or movie has inspired you most and why?

That is a very tough question. OK. I thought of one. The book Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I read the entire unabridged version while I was commuting to San Francisco for a job. My commute was 2 hours long so I read a lot, and that is a book I always wanted to read. The story is incredible, and the interactions between characters is fantastic. Stacy and I saw the musical on Broadway and the performance is awe-inspiring. The right story paired with the perfect music is something that can't be explained--it has to be felt. We're hoping to see the movie this weekend, so maybe I'll add the movie to this list, as well.

3. What song gives you chills every time you hear it?

There are quite a few songs that can do it, but the first one that came to mind is "Fragile" by Sting. The lyrics are incredible and the music itself is haunting. I've heard multiple versions of the song, both live and from the studio, and it doesn't matter which one it is. They are all incredible.

Others that can give me chills include "The Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel, "Free Fallin'" performed by John Mayer, and anything performed by J.J. Johnson (jazz trombonist).

4. What is the weirdest thing you do?

I'm not sure what would be considered weird, especially since I seem completely normal to me. Help me out here! Someone?

5. If you could eat a color, what color would you eat and what would it taste like?

I think I'd like to try eating red. I bet it would be spicy. Yum!

6. What is your favorite stuffed animal and why? (You can post a picture, if you'd like)!

My all-time favorite stuffed animal is my raccoon named Guy. Right now he's somewhere in the attic of my parents' house, which is the house in which I grew up. I've had him for as long as I can remember. My new favorite is my Webkinz raccoon named Guy. The kids bought it for me for Christmas and he is pretty cool. Plus, online, he has an awesome house, complete with a baseball-themed bedroom and sports bar-themed playroom.

7. What is your favorite gaming website and why?

I don't do a lot of gaming so this one is tough. I suppose I'd say Wizard101 because the quests are pretty fun and I enjoy leveling up my wizard. It's been fun to play with the kids as well.

8. What annoys you most?

Things that waste my time, especially if I've taken the time to streamline a process. Why make things efficient if no one else seems to care? And I really don't have enough time for all the things I need/want to do so anything that wastes that precious commodity is on my list.

9. If you could have a million dollars for a day, what would you do with it?

I'd probably spend the whole day wondering what I should do with a million dollars. A few things that come to mind are paying off my student loans, paying off the mortgage (so exciting, right?), prepaying for a massive trip around the world, and giving away money to random people.

10. If you were ruler of the world for a day, what would you do to change the world?

You mean I'm not the ruler already? ;) I would take all the leaders of all the countries and lock them in a room until they figured out a way to coexist peacefully while providing for the needs of the entire world. There are more than enough resources to make sure we have no poor and hungry in the world. How long can I be leader again?

Nominees

I nominate whoever feels like answering my questions. I don't have the energy to even consider who might see this and feel like doing it. I think I know the answer, though.

Now, My Questions

1. Do you like making lists of questions? Why?
2. If you had to make a Scale of Awesome with "0" being "Totally NOT Awesome" and "10" being "So Totally Awesome It Will Explode from Sheer Awesomeness," what examples would you use to illustrate such degrees of Awesomeness?
3. What 3 qualities do you value most in a friend?
4. Divide your life so far into 4 equal parts. Using food, how would you describe each time period?
5. In your opinion, who let the dogs out?
6. If you could be named anything else, what name would you choose? ("I wouldn't change my name. I like my name" is not an acceptable answer.)
7. If your life were a movie, under which genre would it be listed?
8. Which actor would you cast to play you in the movie from question #7?
9. If hell meant watching the same TV show or movie over and over again forever and ever, what would your eternal torment be?

1. Do you like making lists of questions? Why? No. They stress me out. I like answers.

2. If you had to make a Scale of Awesome with "0" being "Totally NOT Awesome" and "10" being "So Totally Awesome It Will Explode from Sheer Awesomeness," what examples would you use to illustrate such degrees of Awesomeness? Wow, hard. I'd say 0 would be slipping and falling on ice when you're 9 months pregnant and 10 being the first bite of the perfect cheesecake.

3. What 3 qualities do you value most in a friend? Honesty, kindness, and humor.

4. Divide your life so far into 4 equal parts. Using food, how would you describe each time period? 0-8 Cereal with no milk. 9-16 Dion's pizza. 17-24 junk food. 24-32 vegetables and cream.

5. In your opinion, who let the dogs out? Bill Clinton.

6. If you could be named anything else, what name would you choose? ("I wouldn't change my name. I like my name" is not an acceptable answer.) Penny Danger.

7. If your life were a movie, under which genre would it be listed? Comedy

8. Which actor would you cast to play you in the movie from question #7? Ugh, one time my friends in college were casting the movie of our lives and they gave me Holly Hunter. Sheesh. I would cast myself as Jennifer Garner because we're both SO beautiful. Heh.

9. If hell meant watching the same TV show or movie over and over again forever and ever, what would your eternal torment be? The Big Bang Theory. :)

10. Paper or plastic? Discuss. Paper (plates). I like not having to do dishes.

Big Bang is hell? No! It's like a dagger to the heart! Well, not exactly. I can see how it's not for everyone.

I've never been 9 months pregnant, but slipping and falling on the ice pretty much sucks however you spin it. Penny Danger? Great name. Sounds like a comic book hero. Thing 1, did you see this name?

Hey, if you want Jennifer Garner to play you go for it. When I was a teen someone thought Sylvester Stallone would play me in a movie. I still cry a little at that comparison. Stacy would probably choose John Cusack to play me. ;)

1. Do you like making lists of questions? Why?

Yes. Because I can ask whatever I want and get to see peoples' answers.

2. If you had to make a Scale of Awesome with "0" being "Totally NOT Awesome" and "10" being "So Totally Awesome It Will Explode from Sheer Awesomeness," what examples would you use to illustrate such degrees of Awesomeness?

"0" would be a day doing nothing but folding laundry and doing dishes and "10" being a day where I can play, read, and write all day, stay up as late as I want, and invite whoever I want over to our house.

3. What 3 qualities do you value most in a friend?

Trustworthiness, a good sense of humor, and kindness.

4. Divide your life so far into 4 equal parts. Using food, how would you describe each time period?

Baby food for the beginning and sushi for the end. I'm not sure what I would do for the middle parts.

5. In your opinion, who let the dogs out?

Me. Let the dogs run free!

6. If you could be named anything else, what name would you choose? ("I wouldn't change my name. I like my name" is not an acceptable answer.)

Hermione Granger. If I HAD to change it I'd want it to be that.

7. If your life were a movie, under which genre would it be listed?

Indie. Is that a genre for movies? If not, fantasy. If you could take a peek into my mind you would know why.

8. Which actor would you cast to play you in the movie from question #7?

Hmm. Probably Emma Watson, because she's awesome.

9. If hell meant watching the same TV show or movie over and over again forever and ever, what would your eternal torment be?

Yo Gabba Gabba. *Shivers*

10. Paper or plastic? Discuss.

Paper. You can't write on plastic.

These were awesome questions! :D

Dang it! I had started typing this comment when my browser crashed. Grrrr.

1. Yes. I like coming up with questions, because I like learning about other people and I like thinking about what people might want to ask me, too.

2. "0" would be spending hours on crap drama because of a lunatic and "10" would be Michael Buble, John Cusack, Tina Fey, Colin Firth, Adam Levine, Lucille Ball (back from the dead - because how awesome would that be!), and Neil deGrasse Tyson showing up with about 100K each (you know, in lieu of a bottle of wine), hanging out for the day at our dream house, eating delicious food, finding out we're all getting published, followed by a night of hanging out doing NOTHING but watching good TV and basking in the glow of a great day. Off the top of my head.

3. Three qualities I value most in a friend - 1. someone who is present and intelligent, 2. listens while both validating me and calling me on my crap, and 3. humor and a willingness to truly commit to getting together and being in touch.

4. What an interesting question! 0 - 10 Years: Portuguese food - soup particularly; 11-20: More Portuguese food, seafood, and lots of Friendly's Ice Cream; My 20s: Lots of homemade food, sushi, and really great Mexican food; My 30s: All kinds of ethnic food - Indian, Mexican, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, etc.

5. Who? Who who who who.

6. Mmmm, maybe Charlie or Jo. I love "crossover" names.

7. Indie/Comedy. Unless there's a genre called "How Am I Not Committed to a Psych Hospital Yet?" In which case, maybe that one.

8. Tina Fey or Lauren Graham. (And yes, Mark would be John Cusack).

9. Hell would be watching Seinfeld over and over and over again. Commit me now!

10. Paper. Seems "greener."

Laughing out loud at TMV's answers.

2. So most days around here are "0?"

10. HILARIOUS!

Boquinha said...

Why is there an extra "4" after my comment? Maybe because I'm exhausted after spending hours on crap drama because of a lunatic - totally NOT awesome.

Boquinha said...

Sylvester Stallone? That's just stupid. Yes, John Cusack.

Emily, have you ever heard the hilarious Gary and Vivian story about Jennifer Garner? SO funny. I hope I'm remember it right and if I'm off on any of it, I hope Vivian chimes in to tell us.

They used to watch whatever show it was she was in (X Files? Alias?) and Gary, who loves to make comments about beautiful women, kept going on and on about how beautiful Jennifer Garner was, how attractive she is, how hot . . . you get the idea.

Finally, Vivian had had enough, so she pointed out to him, "Have you ever noticed how much she looks like Scott?"

Totally ruined Jennifer Garner for Gary.

HILARIOUS. I love that story! I think of it every time I see her. So so funny.

Argh. *rememberING . . . I really need the crap-drama-lunatics in my life to GO AWAY. Need. More. Sleep.

Hey! TMV has lots of days that have to rate at least a 7 or 8 on the Awesomeness scale! It's not all 0s around here! I also wish she could have been around to answer the Baja Men. Maybe your answer would have shut them up once and for all!

I'll get to work on writing "How Am I Not Committed to a Psych Hospital Yet," and Indie/Comedy. Coming soon from Focus Features. Starring Lauren Graham and John Cusack. ;) I'll let you cast the crazies!

I love your awesome day, by the way. I think we need a 10 right around now. Or maybe an 11.

Just had to post a random number! ;)

Dr. Mark said...

Oops. It should have been "Baha" men, not Baja. I guess I was thinking of that little strip of land beneath California, home to lovely cuisine, including baja sauce for your fish taco. Mmmmm. Yum!

Boquinha said...

You know what? Based on her scale of awesomeness, she DOES have lots of 8s, 9s, and 10s.

I get to cast the crazies? Where do we begin?!?!? Surely, Helena Bonham Carter is on the list!

"It goes to 11!"

That, or I go all Liz Lemon on them. ALL OF THEM!!

Dr. Mark said...

Helena Bonham Carter! Perfect! I was thinking Kathy Bates and someone else, so there you go.

I say go for it, LL!
