Tornado News

Yes, the storms came up this way. And yes, we were up from 4:30-7am watching and listening to a crazy storm and the national weather broadcast system. Unnerving, scary stuff.

Some tornadoes touched down in a few different places around us, but thankfully everyone is safe. Lots of tree/structural damage, flooding, road closures, school closures, roofs torn off, wires dangling, etc., but everyone is safe.

Crazy! They say tornadoes are rare around here, but this is at least the 3rd time one has touched down in the same part of the county since we've moved here (8 years ago).

Glad everything's okay - we had similar damage here...nothing like Alabama got though! PA does seem to get a lot of tornadoes, even though they say you don't!

It was so windy last night...I just couldn't believe it. And for as rainy as it was here this morning, it actually turned out to be a really nice day. Crazy weather!

I am glad to hear you guys are all safe. That is scary, and proves why I hate the wind!

Robynne, I saw your town mentioned in the news and was going to call/email you. Glad to know you're okay!

It really is scary. What happened in Alabama is horrific. I'm grateful to have basements -- somehow it just makes you feel a little better.

Yeah, basements are rare here and it makes me really nervous with all the tornadoes we have - I would feel much safer in a basement!!

There is SO much damage in AL - we're expecting months and months of going down to help with the cleanup. It sure breaks my heart for those people involved!

Basements are rare there?!? I didn't know that. That's crazy! That seems like the one place you WOULD build basements!!

So sad. I've heard it was one of the worst tornadoes in history.

I know, crazy, huh? I think it's because all the ground here is pretty much solid rock under a bit of dirt - to do any kind of building or digging deep you have to blast, remove huge rock debris, etc. I think it would just be super expensive to do a basement, so it's not usual to do it.

Scary! We used to have warnings all the time in Texas and a few touched down close to us as well. They seemed to happen a lot when Jared was either working or out of town. The crazy thing is that the locals were so used to the warnings, that they didn't even pay attention. So while I was hunkered down with my kids and our 72 hour kits, the locals were eating barbecue and going to a movie!

Glad you're okay, especially considering all the damage that was caused recently.
