From The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield--there's a great description of a minor character (the doctor's wife) in the book. It goes like this (page 104):
"The doctor's wife wasn't a bad woman. She was sufficiently convinced of her own importance to believe that God actually did watch everything she did and listen to everything she said, and she was too taken up with rooting out the pride she was prone to feeling in her own holiness to notice any other failings she might have had. She was a do-gooder, which means that all the ill she did, she did without realizing it."

I was at the grocery store the other day paying for my groceries when I noticed the store rewards card from the old man who had been in line in front of me was still on the little check writing desk thingy. I mentioned it to the cashier and she said she would just hold it for him, but I thought I could totally catch him (I could see him just heading out the door). So I grabbed the card and chased the poor man down. He looked so grateful and the cashier looked so shocked. I just thought heck, I hope somebody would do the same for me.
That's what we're forgetting sometimes when we don't want to let people in front of us in traffic or (insert other appropriate example here--sorry, my brain is mush!)--do unto others, people, do unto others.
